Thanks for the vet contacts. Have no idea where most of these places are, so will check with a map.
The rest of the info should come in handy to others. thanks again ps, do you happen to know if these vets are just random vets in those areas, or are vets that know and are equipped for the scheme? We're not in France so I'm dreading having to ring several to work out if they have everything set up.

I read in this thread that a person has to have one's dog seen by a vet before you can return to the uK with your animal. Is this so even when you are only visiting Europe with your dog for a holiday or say a month?
My dog is now ready to go and return to Europe, she has all her shots and passport, etc.. I did not realise she has to be seen again 24 hours before returning to the UK. If so, what a pain. Finding a vet at the border crossing will not be a simple matter and my pup will be put out. Peaches |

Yep, they need worm and tick treatments no less than 24hrs, no more than 48hrs before getting back into UK.
More details here: http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quar...res/owners.htm http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quar.../parasites.htm Unfortunately, there are bad things carried by certain ticks and worms in Europe that the UK doesn't have and it's for the good of animals and humans in the UK that this is in place. There seems to be plenty of vets near the border (see previous threads). Although I was thinking that if you had to wait 24hrs I would rather get it done before reaching Calais, rather than waiting around. My struggle is finding a vet that has everything in place (scanner for microchip, etc) when I'm not currently in France to phone around. I was hoping to hear personal experiences of specific vets.

I can only speak from my own very local experience. We had a vet in the village who's since retired, but was great with the pet passport scheme. We'd often make appointments for guest's pets with him just before they were due to leave us, and he'd be very 'pragmatic' about stamping the time & date of treatment on the animal's 'passport'. The newer vet is an unknown quantity to us, as we decided to use one in Saumur after Charles-Henri retired. We have no hesitation in recommending them. They're absolutely first-class. Très sympa!
Guests have told us too that it's relatively easy to be seen in both Calais & St. Malo (for some reason we attract lots of people from the Channel Islands) by the vets there. Other ports I can't speak for. |
